"Memory Lane" Paper Print
Print of an original painting on cold pressed matte paper. “Memory Lane” is the first piece released from the Rose Period. My Rose Period has been a collection of works discussing the relationship between memory and imagination.
"Imagination and memory, are the same thing with two names that point to different aspects of the phenomenon of decaying sense. If we want to point to the idea or image itself, we use ‘imagination’, but if we want to point to the decay, we use ‘memory’". -Thomas Hobbes, English philosopher, From Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
With this piece, the figure is being documented in a moment of time, much like posing for a picture in front of a beautiful building. As soon as the moment has passed, they now have to remember this moment through a mixture of memory and imagination. Just like our past, they can remember it as a happier time than what was actually experienced or as happier than they feel at this present time. This “rose colored glasses” affect is symbolized by the iridescent rose-head and dreamy pastel colors.
